Nepal issues tourist visas on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, at Pokhara and Bhairahawa airports, and at the main land borders, to citizens of most countries. Some nationalities must obtain a visa in advance, and a small number are not eligible for visa on arrival at all.
How visa on arrival works
- Complete the online pre-arrival form (or use the kiosks at the airport) and keep the receipt.
- Pay the visa fee at the bank counter in cash (major currencies accepted) or by card where available.
- Present passport, receipt and payment slip at immigration.
Durations and fees
Tourist visas are issued for 15, 30 or 90 days and can be extended inside Nepal up to a total of 150 days in a calendar year. Fees as published by the Department of Immigration in mid-2026 (verify before travel):
- 15 days: USD 30
- 30 days: USD 50
- 90 days: USD 125
- Extension: USD 3 per day, minimum 15 days (USD 45); a 30-day extension costs USD 90.
- Children under 10 are issued free visas. Nationals of SAARC countries get a free 30-day visa once per year; Indian nationals need no visa.
Passport validity and other rules
- Your passport should be valid for at least six months from entry.
- Indian nationals do not need a visa; nationals of other SAARC countries receive free visas for a limited period.
- Overstaying incurs daily fines and can complicate departure; extend in Kathmandu or Pokhara before your visa expires.
